Wintergreen wrapped up the ski season with one of the most entertaining traditions on the mountain, the annual Pond Skimming event, part of the resort’s Slide and Splash Bash weekend.

On Saturday, March 7, skiers and snowboarders lined up to try their luck skimming across the icy pool set up near the bottom of the slope. Some riders made it clean across, others didn’t make it very far, and the wipeouts were half the fun for the crowd watching.
The event always brings out great costumes and a lot of energy on the mountain. Between the beach outfits, music, and spring weather, it feels a little like winter and summer colliding for one last day on the snow.
I went last year just to watch and had a great time, so this year I decided to bring the camera along and capture some of the action. It’s one of those events that’s just fun to document, there’s always something happening and you never know who’s actually going to make it across the water.
I shared a few photos here from the day, but these are just a small preview.
